Subway Cinema News: March 6 – 13

Everyone else is going to see some big superhero movie this weekend, but why don’t you treat yourself and go see TOKYO! instead? This three-part flick set in the titular city features a segment directed by Michel Gondry (ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND), a segment by Leos Carax and a segment by Bong Joon-Ho (THE HOST). The Carax segement gets panned, but everyone agrees that the other two are pretty sweet. (Read the reviews)

THE TERRORIST, a gorgeous independent Indian film directed by ace cinematographer, Santosh Sivan, is playing at the 92nd Street Y on Thursday, March 12 @ 7:30pm. DJ Rekha will introduce it for some reason. (More info)

The next installment in Japan Society’s surprisingly popular Tora-san screenings will be a screening of 1972’s TORA-SAN’S DREAM-COME-TRUE on Friday, March 13 @ 7:30pm. This is yet another of Yoji Yamada’s directing efforts, and like all the rest it’s a pitch perfect installment in the long-running Tora-san series, Japan’s most loved series of films. (More info)

On Thursday, March 19 at 6:30pm, the Korea Society will be screening YMCA BASEBALL TEAM. This 2002 film starring Song Kang-Ho (THE HOST) is about a baseball team in turn-of-the-century Korea. Expects lotsa laffs. (More info)
